An event like this is an immense responsibility and the organizers shall leave no stones unturned in order to ensure safety of the participants and the personnel. The terrain is very hostile and proper safety measures are indispensable. Even the most experienced climbers and athletes find it difficult to withstand the mountain harshness in extreme weather. Altitude sickness, cold, frostbite, etc. are inescapable if proper arrangements are not made. Moreover, the terrain is vastly uncharted with accidents posing imminent threats. Elaborate planning and counter measures are essential to tackle issues that may arise with health, nutrition and rescue.

1. Medical Arrangement

Conducting marathons at such high altitudes is risky; strict precautions are taken for safeguarding life of the participants and facilitators alike from sickness or accidents. Every participant of the race will be subjected to elaborate health checkups and fitness tests in order to make sure that they are fit enough to participate. Arrangements of medical personnel and supplies will be made throughout the course of the race to tackle any form of emergencies that may arise during the marathon. At every 5 kilometers of the race track, doctors and medical personnel will be deployed along with necessary first aid kits, blood pressure checking devices, oxygen bottles / mask regulators and walkie-talkies.

2.Food and Water Related Arrangement

Right food and diet is crucial to athletes on such a grueling run. Appropriate food and diet has been planned for participants through the duration of the program. During the race, beverages like glucose, juice, warm water and instant energy boosters like chocolate are stocked at intervals of 5 kms. Since such an adventure has never been attempted at such a great height, there is a probability that even the fittest people may require reinforcements. Installing food stalls at frequent intervals will be immensely helpful in overcoming fatigue, thirst or dizziness as the race progresses.

3. Rescue Arrangement

A helicopter, equipped to respond to medical emergencies will be positioned in Syangboche (3780m), which will be summoned immediately in case rescue seems imminent. In case of accidents or serious sickness, personnel deployed throughout the race track will inform the helicopter crew. The helicopter will be equipped with sufficient supply of oxygen and essential medical gear. Trained medical personnel aboard will provide secondary medical response until the patient reaches the hospital.
