Trip Introduction

Mt. Dhaulagiri is the sixth highest peaks in Nepal and the seventh highest peak of the world with its height 8,167m above from the sea level. This mountain lies in the northwestern corridor of Nepal in Myagdi District. Mt. Dhaulagiri is extends about 120km from Kaligandaki River to the Bheri river in the west. “Dhaulagiri” is derived from the Sanskrit word, “Dhawala and Giri” which means “White and Mountain” respectively. Mt. Dhaulagiri is also the highest point of the Gandaki River Basin. The Annapurna I, which is 34Km east of Dhaulagiri I, in between these two giants a gorge is formed, known as Kaligandaki Gorge, This gorge is deepest gorge in the world and Kaligandaki River flows in this gorge.

Dhaulagiri is reflected as one of the most fascinating peaks to climb. Mt. Dhaulagiri has 5 ridges and south and west faces, Majority of the scaling have been following the first route, which is known as “Normal Route”. Northeast route is considered as the normal route; However, Mt. Dhaulagiri has been scaled from every direction. It was the team of Swiss /Austrian Mountaineers led by Kurt Diemberger who first reached to the top of Mt. Dhaulagiri on 13th May 1960. As all of Dhaulagiri routes are challenging, only veterans seems to have interest in this mountain.

The base camp is normally set at around 4,750m, and then three camps follow before reaching the top. The first camp is at 5,850m, camp 2 is at 6400m, and the last camp is at 7400m.

Every year Seven Summit Treks organize large number of Mt. Dhaulagiri expedition.

  1. Arrival & Departure: Airport - Hotel transfers – Airport (Pick Up and Drop).
  2. Hotel Accommodation in Kathmandu: 4 nights hotel in Kathmandu (3 Star Category) on BB plan, Sharing Basis-Twin Bed Room.

  5. Permit: Expedition Royalty and permit of Nepal Government to climb Mt. Dhaulagiri I, TIMS Card, Annapurna conservation area entry permits & fee.   
  6. Liaison Officer: 1 Government Liaison officer with full equipment ($2,500), salary and accommodation.  
  7. Garbage Management: Stool Shipment Transfer & Garbage Deposit fees.
  8. Insurance: Medical & Emergency rescue Insurance for all involved Nepalese staffs during the trek and expedition.

  10. Cargo Clearance: International Air cargo clearance of Member Personal Luggage & Payment of Government taxes in Nepal. *before the expedition.
  11. Member transportation: 
    -(*Normal Route Itinerary)
    Air Transportation (Domestic Flight): Fly from Kathmandu – Pokhara and drive from Pokhara to Takam. While returning Drive from Takam to Pokhara and from Pokhara Fly to Kathmandu, as per itinerary.
    -(*Heli Itinerary) Air Transportation (Domestic Flight): Fly from Kathmandu – Pokhara and drive from Pokhara to Takam. Heli flight from Takam to Italian Basecamp. While returning Heli flight from Italian Basecamp to Takam. Drive from Takam to Pokhara and from Pokhara Fly to Kathmandu, as per itinerary (with additional cost).
  12. Expedition Stuffs Transportation:Necessary all equipment Transportation for all Members and Staffs from Kathmandu to Takam (by Truck) and from Takam to Base camp (By heli/ donkey/ Porters – Depending upon condition) – While returning: Base camp to Takam (By heli/ donkey/ Porters – Depending upon condition) and Takam to Kathmandu (by Truck).
  13. Member Luggage: Up to 70 Kg per member for personal baggage during the trek carrying by porters or Yaks.
  14. Food and Lodging: 3 meals a day (BLD; including tea and coffee) along with accessible accommodation at Hotel/Lodge/Tea house/Camp during the trek and Basecamp. Well-managed base camp set up for member & Staffs.
  15. All Necessary equipment for Camping during the trek.
  16. Porter: Porters per member from Takam to Basecamp & while returning porters from Base camp to Takam.
  17. Base Camp Staff:  Experienced and well-trained Base camp Cook & kitchen Helpers as required.
  18. Staff Salary and allowance: All Nepalese staffs & porters daily wages, salary, equipment, foods & clothing.
  19. Base Camp Tent: Each member will have individual Yak Mountain or Kailas tent in Base Camp.
  20. Base Camp equipment: At Base camp: foam mattresses and pillow per member, 1 Dinning Tent, 1 Kitchen Tent, 1 Communication tent, 1 Toilet & 1 Shower Tent, 1 Staffs Tent, 1 Tent for Nepalese base camp staffs, Store tents, Tables & chairs & all necessary cooking gears.
  21. Heater: Heater for base camp in each Dining and other necessary camp.
  22. Solar/Generator/Light:1 Solar panel or Generator for battery charge and light at base camp for use. 
  23. High Altitude Climbing Sherpa: 1 veteran and Government Licensed Climbing Sherpa per member. (1 Member: 1 Sherpa).
  24. Climbing Sherpa Salary & Allowance: Climbing Sherpa Salary, Equipment, Food and Clothing.
  25. Oxygen Bottle (O2): Summit Oxygen cylinder: 2 oxygen bottles (4 ltrs.) for each member and 1 oxygen bottle for each high-altitude Sherpa. **
  26. Oxygen Mask & Regulator: 1 Set of Summit Oxygen mask & regulator for each member and high-altitude Sherpa. **
  27. Back up Oxygen Cylinder, mask and regulator (with appropriate charge).
  28. High camp service: High Altitude Tent, Necessary cooking EPI gas, cooking pot for member, High food for members, Sherpas and other climbing staffs at C1 , C2 and C3. Group climbing gears, fixed and dynamic rope during the climbing period as required.
  29. Rope Fixing Team:The team of experienced Sherpas will fix the route on Dhaulagiri (no extra charge will be applied to members).
  30. Satellite Phone for emergency communication carrying by Sherpa, also available for members with appropriate charge.
  31. Walkie-Talkie: Walkie –Talkie for communicating from Base Camp to Mountain and Mountain to Base Camp.
  32. Permit: Satellite Phone / walkie-talkie permit for all members and staffs.
  33. Weather Forecast: Weather forecast report from Meteotest, Bern (Switzerland) during the entire expedition. 
  34. Comprehensive Medical kit.
  35. Certificate: Dhaulagiri climbing certificate issued by MoCTCA (after climbing Mt. Dhaulagiri I successfully).
